Giants & Brian Wilson Avoid Arbitration

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

All is pretty quiet in the land of Giants. We’ve pretty much shot our wad on these MARQUEE free agents we’ve brought in *gagging sounds*, but, at least we’ve made some progress with our already established players.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Giants and Brian Wilson have avoided arbitration with a one-year deal.
It will be worth $4,437,500, the midpoint between the $4 million and $4.875 million figures submitted earlier this month.
Now it’s Tiny Tim’s turn.

Baseball Suicide – Bengie Molina Returns To Giants

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Yes, I understand you might need to read that title again. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Done?
And yes – I’m even more shocked that you are. Ladies and gentleman, Bengie Molina has returned to the Giants which is obviously a sign the world is going to be ending soon. The Giants announced that Molina signed a 1 year, 4.5 million dollar contract and will resume starting catching duties for the black and orange.
The Giants were looking at a variety of catching options, most notably ex-Giant, Yorvit Torrealba…but after Molina was unable to come to terms with the Mets, the Giants extended an [...]

Aubrey Huff To The Giants

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

After the spurn from Adam LaRoche, the Giants decided to spend their money more wisely (I guess…) and signed Aubrey Huff to a 1 year, 3 million dollar deal early this morning.
Huff started off last season well, but, only manged to hit .250 with 15 homers in 150 games last year for the O’s. Which leads me to believe the Giants could have saved 3 million and let Travis Ish hit .250 with 15 homers and play gold glove level defense.
But, then again, what do I know?
This gets a big fat, MEH…like most of this offseason.

Adam LaRoche Might Be Crazy – Giants Even Crazier

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Wow – this sure came out of left field. According to Dejan Kovacevic, the Giants offered outfielder Adam LaRoche a two year, 17.5 million dollar deal……..to which he TURNED DOWN because it wasn’t enough money. Say what!?
LaRoche had a very solid season last year after moving to the Braves, .325/.401/.557 with 12 home runs and a .957 OPS in 212 at-bats…not so hot for the Pirates however.
LaRoche also turned 30 this past season, so the thinking that he’ll not only get a more lucrative offer but a longer one seems like wishful thinking. I for one, am glad he turned [...]

Randy Johnson Announces Retirement

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Many times, it was the Giants on the wrong end of the scoreboard when Randy Johnson took the mound, but, I’m happy to say we were the lucky ones who witnessed his final season.
The long time Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks ace announced his retirement today, according to Ed Price.
Johnson won his 300th game in a Giants uniform earlier this year during a rain storm in Washington D.C., but later blew out his elbow in a freak at-bat. He returned in the seasons final days, with hopes of becoming a long relief pitcher during the Giants playoff run that never [...]

Giants Looking Into Kiko Calero – Re-sign Juan Uribe

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

First off – if you haven’t hard by now, the Giants finally re-signed super utility man Juan Uribe to a small contract in which terms were not disclosed. It’s believed however that the deal will be a one year deal with an option on the second season.
And now with Uribe and DeRosa signed up for the black and orange, the Giants are looking to bolster their bullpen as CSN BayArea is reporting that the Giants are looking into ex-Marlins reliever Kiko Calero. Calero, 34, posted an impressive 1.95 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69/30 K/BB ratio in 60 innings this season [...]
