Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has unveiled a strategic partnership with a Swiss engineering firm known as ABB, through which the two will work towards industrial transformation.
The Microsoft ABB partnership between the two firms aims at generating digital solutions that will add value to industrial customers. The partnership will combine ABB’s portfolio of extensive industrial solutions and domain knowledge with the intelligent cloud platform from Microsoft.
“Together with ABB, we are providing industrial customers with the digital technology and cloud platform to empower every person, team, and business system within an organization to glean new insights and drive faster decision-making to seize new growth and opportunities,” stated Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella.
The partnership aims at digital transformation in various segments
Both Microsoft and ABB are interested in fostering digital transformation in various segments including renewable energy, ports, electric vehicles, marine, and robotics.
“Building on our installed base of more than 70 million connected devices and more than 70,000 digital control systems, the next step is to develop one of the world’s largest industrial cloud platforms,” pointed out Ulrich Spiesshofer, the CEO of ABB.

Synergy to be derived from the partnership
The partnership between Microsoft and ABB means Microsoft Azure will be ABB’s exclusive partner with regards to the integrated connectivity platform. This will provide ABB customers with enterprise-level cloud infrastructure. The ABB CEO also stated that the partnership will also offer unique benefits to his company’s clients, especially in the infrastructure, transport, industry and utility sectors.
The idea is to take combine the strengths of both firms to speed up the creation of digital solutions that will enhance customer productivity. This means the resultant solutions will focus on enhancing customer speed, yield, and uptime. ABB is a market leader in industrial automation, robotics, electrification products and power grid services among others and the partnership with Microsoft is expected to grant it more influence.
Microsoft stocks closed the latest trading session at $57.42, which is lower than the value of the stock in the previous close by $0.18 or 0.31%.
