Catalina Gomez Says Nude Twitter Photos Are Act of Sexual Violence

June 16, 2014 - By Jan Rainey

Day by Day TV presenter Catalina Gomez has hit out at Twitter users for sharing alleged nude photos of the celebrity on the social media site. She denied they were real and said it was the same as carrying out an act of sexual violence against her.

The naked “selfies” began circulating around the internet late Tuesday night, and originated from the Twitter account @elputoamante. In a message that has since been removed the Twitter user also claimed to have a video of Gomez to go along with the photos, but so far no clip has been released.

After waking up Wednesday morning to an online frenzy, Gomez immediately took to her own Twitter account to denounce the photos.

She called then fakes, though it is not clear if she means the lady isn’t her or if they were created in photoshop image editing software – a common occurrence.

She said violations of privacy like this should be a crime, and that sexual violence doesn’t have to be physical but can also take place on social media. It affects the victim just like any other form of violence, and can hurt family members as well, she continued.

Gomez further explained that it hurts her soul, and she does not know who did this or understand why they did it.

Colleague Daniel Samper Ospina took to Twitter to support Catalina, saying only a scoundrel and resentful person could do something like this to such a decent and exemplary woman like Gomez.
