Giants Are Wild Cards Or Bust

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants | COMMENTS: None Yet

Face it – the Giants chances of catching the Padres in the NL West is slim to none. Sure, I guess it’s possible that the Padres could totally shit the bed and go 1-6 against the Giants the rest of the way. It’s also possible that I could win the mega lotto next week AND find a magical pony in my backyard that knows the recipe for Krispy Kreme’s. I mean, anything is possible. Other than the fact it’s not.
As I speak, the G-men (who are idle today) sit 6.5 games behind the Swingin’ Friars who will play the Diamondbacks [...]

A Giant Legend – Bobby Thompson Passes Away

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

While most of us weren’t alive when Bobby Thompson hit the shot heard round the world, winning the 1951 pennant for the Giants, his legacy will always remain.
He wasn’t the fielder Willie Mac was. His bat couldn’t compare to Mays’. But he ensured that he will always live in Giant history with a single swing of the bat on October 3rd, 1951.
Thompson’s shot off of Brooklyn Dodger Ralph Branca sent the Giants to the World Series (breaking the 1-1 series tie), a moment that capped a historic comeback. The Giants trailed the Dodgers by 13 1/2 games in mid-August but [...]

Jose Guillen Traded To San Francisco Giants

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to ESPN Deportes and Enrique Rojas, the Giants and Royals have agreed on a deal that will bring the recently DFA’d Guillen to San Francisco. The article is in Spanish, so, for you little snowflakes that aren’t bi-lingual, well, just trust me. There is no word on what the Royals are getting back, but whatever it is – it’ll be pretty worthless to the Giants.
As for Guillen and the Giants – it’s a part time role. A spot start thing. Well, it should be but we all know how Bruce Bochy loves him a veteran. Multiple other teams were [...]

Giants Acquire Mike Fontenot In Trade

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Two pieces of news that will pre-curse this move.
Eugenio Velez was activated from the DL and optioned to Fresno. Edgar Renteria, who left last evenings game, has been put on the DL with a left biceps strain.
Which brings us to Mr. Fontenot. He was acquired just minutes ago from the oddly enough, in town Cubs in exchange for Low-A infielder Evan Crawford, according to Baggs. The Giants acquired their current second baseman last year in a similar fashion, picking up Freddy Sanchez from the in town Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fontenot has a .284 average in 84 games this year. He has [...]

Analyzing The San Francisco Giants Trade Deadline

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Maybe it’s best to start with the lack of moves?
Okay, in all seriousness, the Giants made two trades deadline day – neither of which were the big names many were hoping for. Hell, they weren’t even average names. But, that doesn’t mean that both trades weren’t solid moves.
I know the general opinion is that the Giants struck out on the big hitter, such as Corey Hart, Prince Fielder, Adam Dunn, etc. And the second general opinion is that the Giants struck out on the big name reliever like Scott Downs, Justin Frasor, etc. And while I would have loved to [...]

Giants Lose Pitcher Dan Runzler For 6-8 Weeks

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, News & Notes, Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yuck. Rough blow. For an already shaky bullpen, things just got a bit more dire – especially from the left side. I’d have to think this all but certifies the notion of going out and getting another left hander, something that was already needed but becomes more of a desperation now.
For those that missed it, Runzler was sent up to bat yesterday (his first career at-bat in the Majors) and he promptly swung, hitting a foul ball down the line, all the while corkscrewing his knee into the ground. Rev Run fell to the ground, grabbed his knee, got right [...]

Bengie Molina’s Farewell To Giant Fans

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

I think it’s safe to say many of us were growing tired of Bengie here in the Bay Area. From the odd comments about Buster Posey to his on-field performance, it was getting clear that the time to move on was fast approaching – on both sides. But Bengie was an important part to the Giants over the past few years and played a huge and very special role to the local community as well to his fellow teammates.
Bengie took to his blog, Behind The Mask, and gave one final goodbye to Giant fans and his teammates. Despite your feelings [...]

With Bengie Molina Gone, Your Lineup Is?

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The pearly gates have opened – and who appears? Well, I’m glad you asked! None other than Gerald Buster Posey, of course.
The trading of Bengie Molina to the Texas Rangers last evening all but opened the door for Posey to start behind the dish (right, Boch?), but, the trade opens up a few new lineup situationals. So, if you were Bochy, what would be your designated defensive lineup?
The option is there to remove Huff from the outfield and throw him back to first base. That gives Pat Burrell a continued starting slot and allows the Giants to either get Nate [...]

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Popular, Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

for pitcher Chris Ray and the ever famous player to be named later.
Rejoice Giant fans – Buster Posey is your every day catcher…………..I hope.

You had a good run here Bengie. Thanks for the solid seasons, but, the welcome had been worn out. Good luck in Texas, Big Money.

Bruce Bochy Will Forever Be Bruce Bochy

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants | COMMENTS: None Yet

As many of you are aware – despite my ties to the Giants, I’ve been living in Southern California for years and have been subjected to Bochy’s term with the Padres and now the Giants. I’ve become all too aware of his managing “style” – it’s drove me nucking futs for YEARS. It’s really getting to the point that it’s impossible to put into words. Almost…
Here is a lovely article about Bochy from SignOnSanDiego…..from 1996. Sounds eerily familiar, no?
“Bruce Bochy heard the whispers. He catered too much to veterans. He was too impatient with young players.“I’ve heard it,” Bochy [...]
