Buster Posey & Andres Torres Get National Love

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

You don’t see too many articles in USA Today about the Giants. Hell, you haven’t seen much of anything in the National media, Giants related, at all. I’ll blame the whole east coast bias thing, cause well, I have the power to do that. Who’s gonna stop me?! *flexes*
Anyway, I thought Jorge Ortiz of USA Today wrote a great piece on two fan favorites, Gerald “Buster” Posey and Andres Torres which you can read here.
It touches on each individual players road to the MLB (and the Giants) – and I simply thought it was cool to see not only Posey, [...]

Aubrey Huff Changes Representation

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

I smell something. And I know it’s not me – I showered last week.
Could it be the scent of a final big pay day?
DING DING DING! What do I win!?!
Aubrey Huff has decided to be represented by Mark Pieper of SFX who represents many of the biggest names in Major League Baseball – some of which include Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, and Mariano Rivera.
I love Huff as a player and as a clubhouse guy but I can’t help but think he’ll chase the money after the impressive season he’s having. I just hope the Giants aren’t the team that overspends.
Huff [...]

Jose Guillen Traded To San Francisco Giants

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to ESPN Deportes and Enrique Rojas, the Giants and Royals have agreed on a deal that will bring the recently DFA’d Guillen to San Francisco. The article is in Spanish, so, for you little snowflakes that aren’t bi-lingual, well, just trust me. There is no word on what the Royals are getting back, but whatever it is – it’ll be pretty worthless to the Giants.
As for Guillen and the Giants – it’s a part time role. A spot start thing. Well, it should be but we all know how Bruce Bochy loves him a veteran. Multiple other teams were [...]

Giants Acquire Mike Fontenot In Trade

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Two pieces of news that will pre-curse this move.
Eugenio Velez was activated from the DL and optioned to Fresno. Edgar Renteria, who left last evenings game, has been put on the DL with a left biceps strain.
Which brings us to Mr. Fontenot. He was acquired just minutes ago from the oddly enough, in town Cubs in exchange for Low-A infielder Evan Crawford, according to Baggs. The Giants acquired their current second baseman last year in a similar fashion, picking up Freddy Sanchez from the in town Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fontenot has a .284 average in 84 games this year. He has [...]

Tim Lincecum And Chicken Little

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is the sky falling? I guess that depends on who you ask.
Whatever the case, Tim Lincecum simply isn’t the Tim Lincecum we’ve come to know. He doesn’t have his A game stuff. Hell, he doesn’t have his B game stuff. He’s working on a C- and slowly making his way downward. It’s been a rough year for the Freak despite his very respectable statistics. He’s been able to wrangle his way out of traffic jams on the bases the past few months, but his WHIP and batting average against have been very un-Lincecum like. In June and July, batters were [...]

All Your Base Are Belong To Buster Posey

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

This might be the greatest thing to ever grace the interwebz, and that’s saying a lot considering the amount of finger candy gracing the world wide web. And no, I’m not sure what finger candy means but it sounds wonderful. I’ll take several of them, whatever they might be.
Check out this fantastic mix by jencheng and keep your hands out of your pants, if you can. It’s teh awesome. And with that, I think I’ve dumped in about 9 internet slang terms into this posting. WOOT. Ha! 10!! Suck on them apples.

Giants To Call Up Emmanuel Burriss

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Andrew Baggerly of the Merc is hearing that the Giants will promote speedy infielder Emmanuel Burriss today and finally stop carrying a 13 man pitching staff. No word on who will be the causality of the Burriss roster move but I’d suspect Todd Wellemeyer. He looked incredibly unimpressive yesterday and I’m not sure if he can properly fill the void of a long relief man. If not Wellemeyer, my next best guess would be Santiago Casilla – but I highly doubt that. Casilla has been solid all season despite some of the walk issues, but with the potential return of [...]

Giants Sign Dontrelle Willis

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Players, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

I uh, well, I’d like to be able to say “GOTCHA”, but, alas – I can’t.
I’ve confirmed that the Giants have indeed signed the D-Train to a minor league contract and he’ll be in uniform for the AAA Grizzlies within a day or so.
Willis hasn’t had a respectable season since 2006 and was absolutely tattooed in both of his stops this year, Detroit and Arizona…with things getting even somehow more during his short stint in the Valley of the Sun just a few weeks ago.
I’d be more than willing to provide you with an analysis of why this move happened, [...]

Giants Lose Pitcher Dan Runzler For 6-8 Weeks

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Giants, News & Notes, Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yuck. Rough blow. For an already shaky bullpen, things just got a bit more dire – especially from the left side. I’d have to think this all but certifies the notion of going out and getting another left hander, something that was already needed but becomes more of a desperation now.
For those that missed it, Runzler was sent up to bat yesterday (his first career at-bat in the Majors) and he promptly swung, hitting a foul ball down the line, all the while corkscrewing his knee into the ground. Rev Run fell to the ground, grabbed his knee, got right [...]

Giants Prospect Darren Ford Arrested

AUTHOR: Bryan | IN: Minor League, Players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Oh mai.
Mai oh mai.
Minor league baseball player Darren Ford turned himself into police and was arrested on charges of making a false police report, theft and other offenses. In November, Ford had reported he was robbed of a bank deposit bag from RK Chevrolet, where he was employed at the time, during an errand stop at the Department of Motor Vehicles office.
The soap Darren, do not drop.
