Mexican national Jorge Alberto Lopez Amores is missing, feared dead, after voluntarily jumping overboard on a Brazilian cruise during the ongoing World Cup, it has been alleged.

Amores who lived in Mexico City and worked in social media, tweeted throughout is holiday. In one Vine video he was filmed joking around and jumping in to a jacuzzi with a lifejacket on. It was eerily titled “Man Overboard”.

The circumstances in which he found himself overboard for real are still being investigated, although witnesses from the MSC Divina cruise, say that he voluntarily decided to jump from the 15th floor himself and there was no foul play involved. The incident took place on June 18, at 17:00 hours, according to a statement made by the Mundomex Group travel agency, who arranged the cruise off the coast of Brazil.

The Brazilian Navy continue their search near the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. Passengers were travelling from Fortaleza to Recife to attend one of the World Cup football fixtures. The incident took place approximately 50km (30 miles) from the port.

At this time it is not clear whether the 25 year old had consumed alcohol prior to the jump, or whether there were any other influences on what allegedly took place.

After halting the journey in hope of finding the young football fan, Brazilian authorities allowed the cruise to continue to its destination, and the Navy took over.

The cruise was mainly attended by Mexicans who boarded from the United States to follow Mexico’s World Cup games.
