Thor 3 Delayed, Ragnarok Storyline Could Signal Big Changes for Thor Universe!

March 1, 2015 - By Jan Rainey

Thor 3 has been delayed until November 3, 2017. It was originally supposed to debut on July 28th, 2017. However, this change hasn’t angered fans very much. Thor 3 or Thor: Ragnarok, was supposed originally going to come out a little over two months after Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Those two movies were also the only two movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released in 2017.

Having them both come out within two months of each other would probably negatively affect both of the films box office sales. Additionally, Thor 2: The Dark World was released on November 8th, 2013. So, Thor 3 releasing in November of 2017 isn’t that farfetched of an idea. The movie will lead into part one of the third Avengers movie. The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 on May 4th, 2018.

It’s quite an exciting time, and many people are excited for Thor 3. As for the movie itself, we still don’t have very much new information. It was speculated, and then revealed that the storyline for Thor 3 would be based off of the Ragnarok storyline from the comics. The Ragnarok storyline from the comics is about the death and rebirth of the Asgard world. There is a cycle where the world (and its people) and destroyed and reborn every so often, and Thor is furious when he finds out about it.

The celestial gods need the cycle in order to survive. The new gods who replace the ones who are killed have no idea what happens. Thor is mainly mad because it will destroy his people’s memory and their glory. In order to end the cycle, Thor will likely have to form a partnership with his nemesis, Surtur. Surtur is based off of the fire giant in Norse mythology and is essentially a giant flaming demon.

He is incredibly strong and has stood in Thor’s path many times in the comics. It is also said that Loki will be involved in the movie to. But, to what extent, we do not know. Many people also want to know if Thor 3 will be the end of Thor. There are a lot of other characters being introduced into the MCU, and having Thor around could start to crowd the lineup for potential sequels of movies.
