Are Steph Curry and Klay Thompson the best backcourt in the NBA?

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are considered the best backcourt in the NBA, and after all you don’t get a name like the Splash Brothers if you are not attracting a lot of attention on the court!

The Splash Brothers name was coined by fans after it became a twitter hashtag and is based on the duos ability to “splash” the net with the ball. It is also a reference to an earlier San Francisco baseball partnership when Josh Canseco and Mark McGwire became known as the Bash Brothers in the 1980s.

So what makes Steph Curry and Klay Thompson so good? It all comes down to their performances for the Golden State Warriors and their stats are impressive. Curry has a whopping 44% shooting average with Klay slightly behind on 42% and together this fearsome duo has wreaked havoc on the NBA since they burst onto the scene in 2012.

The Golden Gate Warriors are undeniably the most exciting team in the NBA at the moment. Since the Splash Brothers came into the game, the Warriors have reached five NBA finals, winning three of them.

Curry and Thompson are both fantastic all round players who are equally at home with shooting as they are with defence. The informed opinion is that Curry is the better attack player and Thompson is the better player in defence but as with all great partnerships, both players work best as a duo. They connect with each other on the court setting up moves and playing the court seamlessly.

Although the NBA is home to some fantastic players this ongoing partnership of the Splash brothers is hard to beat. They have become talismanic for the Golden Gate Warriors, a combination that intimidates the opposition and delights the crowd.

Neither player is as successful if the other is missing. Klay is always rock solid in defence but Steph’s shooting stats reduce when Klay is not on the court. This can be problematic if either player is out due to injury.

At the end of the day, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are a fantastic iconic partnership that has already gone down in the history of the Golden Gate Warriors. They are considered the best backcourt in the NBA even by neutral observers and their different strengths are amplified because they seem to have a telepathic connection on the court that is impossible to beat.

Had Steph Curry and Klay Thompson never met, either would have still become successful top flight basketball players. But the secret to the Splash Brothers success is that together they are so much more.

As with all great partnerships, when two come together, they are far stronger than one on his own, making the combination practically unbeatable.

Leaving this entire aside it’s a great time to be a Golden Gates Warriors fan. The sheer excitement and connectivity of the Splash Brothers on court, cheered on by the home crowd, a great run of trophies and victories and their fantastic skilful play will be seen as a golden time for the Golden Gates Warriors for decades to come.
