Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 17 has 50 Shades of Grey Themed Episode!

March 11, 2015 - By Jan Rainey

Criminal Minds season 10 episode 17 just aired. It was entitled “Breath Play”, and was quite the episode. It had to deal with a fictional 50 Shades of Gray book and UnSub. Kate is also pregnant on this episode of the show. Her teenage daughter, Meg, isn’t taking the news very well. She pierces her own belly button to get some additional attention from Kate. Kate takes Meg to Morgan’s doctor girlfriend to get Meg looked at, and Meg ends up being okay.

Kate and the rest of the team go to Wisconsin to find out their new case. The UnSub has killed three women so far, but none of them have very much in connection with one another. The women’s names are Mary, Donna, and Emma. The women were all found tied-up in their homes and there was evidence of a sexual assault with each case. The most disturbing part is how long the UnSub was willing to wait to kill his victims. There were signs that he was willing to wait for hours before he made his move. He was waiting for when his victim was most vulnerable.

The women were each of a different ethnicity and had never crossed paths with one another. They also all had different ways they approached relationships. So, it was taking the group a while to figure out the connection between all three of the women. Criminal Minds then takes us into the mind of Patrick Jon Murphy.

He is a family man with a wife and a few kids, but talks to lonely women claiming to be both divorced and single. He then gets the women to let him into their homes, and then kills them once he gets inside. The team finds out about a popular book called Bare Reflections, which is a BDSM which is similar to 50 Shades of Grey, and is the key to solving this murder.

Patrick Jon Murphy is meeting the women on book forums and then meeting them at their home. According to his own profile, he started killing women as a part of his pent up frustration with his own wife. Interestingly enough, Patrick had been killing women in the area for years, mainly focusing on prostitutes before the book came out. By the end of the episode, Patrick was caught quite easily.
